Community Impact Stories
Maintaining natural beauty in Sasakami, Japan
The Fukushima Lagoon is one of the region's leading scenic areas. Due to heavy visitor traffic, it can be difficult to keep clean. In April, approximately 70 DuPont employees and family members joined other community members for an annual "clean-up day" to remove trash and other debris from around the Lagoon.
This was the 21st consecutive year that our Sasakami site joined in this community effort.

Empowering people to realize their full potential
People with intellectual disabilities often face discrimination and other challenges. For 25 years, DuPont has sponsored the Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games in Delaware, USA, partnering to enable special-needs athletes to develop skills through sports training and competition.
More than 100 employees volunteered at the 2019 Games, ensuring that 650+ athletes were able to give it their all. In addition, a DuPont executive spoke at the Opening Ceremonies and officially opened the Games. Two employees served on the Games Planning Committee, and a corporate grant provided funding for the event.
Inspiring at-risk youth to be their best in Alphaville, Brazil
Children and adolescents in the? Parque Imperial community often live in poverty, and are tempted to make negative life choices. DuPont? has partnered with CEPAC, a local non-profit organization to support programs that expose at-risk youth to professional opportunities.
Programa Jovem Aprendiz: this paid internship program offers adolescents a chance to explore career opportunities in DuPont.
Coffee with Professionals: these informal forums with DuPont employees allow adolescents to ask questions, receive advice, and become inspired about their future.
Sparking student interest in Biotechnology in The Netherlands
Very few students in The Netherlands choose a technical education. DuPont partners with TechnoLab, a local non-profit organization to interest students STEM careers. When high school students visited our site to learn about biotechnology, DuPont scientists explained how our enzymes are used in industrial and household applications and helped the students create biopolymers by converting starch to sugars in our lab.?
Helping to beautify the community in Midland, Michigan
As a new company in Dow’s HQ community of Midland, Michigan (USA), we want to establish a strong presence while enhancing the lives of those living here and in the surrounding communities. That's why we participated in Midland Blooms, an annual beautification effort along a 2.5 mile stretch of a heavily trafficked road in Midland. 23 DuPont employees joined 400+ area volunteers to plant 50,000+ flowers in under one hour!
Partnering with Keep Midland Beautiful and the Midland Business Association, this volunteer event also offered team building opportunities for our employees and a chance to meet neighboring companies.

We do this by supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education programs and promoting hands-on, inquiry-based learning from elementary to post-doctoral education. And we offer career support programs for teachers and young professors.
